of the solution. eric rasmussen, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> a trip to the beach turned deadly for a couple walking their dog at point reyes national seashore. the u.s. coast guard and marin county fire crews recovered the body of a 59-year-old man from the water. marin fire tells us the husband and wife were swept into the water this afternoon. people helped the woman to shore but the man was pulled out to sea bey the strong waves. a helicopter and lifeboat searched for the man for hours before recovering his body just before nightfall. >>> a vote is set to take place tonight in the u.s. house on a deal to save the government from its plummet off its fiscal cliff. ktvu's scott mcfarlane is in our washington, d.c. bureau with late details. scott. >> reporter: yeah, if this bill this 150-page bill, is approved by the u.s. house, it is poised to be law, and a tax hike is averted for nearly everyone who earns less than $450,000 a year. but at this moment, passage of the bill is not guaranteed. they won't let our cameras inside the room in the basement of the capitol but we've watched u.

repairing and they hope to have the road open for this afternoon's commute. alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, alex. >>> there's word of other water main breaks. east bay m.u.d. said a 6-inch pipe started to leak at 6th and berkeley. they expect that to beicks fixed -- they expect that to be fixed at 1:00 p.m. and water workers had no estimate how long it would take to repair another main break, this one in oakland at westview drive and vicente place. meanwhile, repair crews in concord worked all night to fix the fourth water main break on mount de's blob road. officials say no -- mt. diablo road and finished repairing that break about an hour ago. >>> a freeze warning was in effect for the north bay valleys. the bank thermometer read a chilly 29. residents bundled up as they headed out the door. >> we buy some coffee. >> reporter: pretty cold? >> yeah. >> i got sweater and -- i got my jacket -- >> reporter: four. >> four layers. >> reporter: now layers? >> yes. >> other chilly spots were santa rosa, napa, livermore, redwood city and morgan hill. steve is coming u

off. ktvu news crew has been there since 4:30. we're going to get a live update. a new update coming up at 5:30. >>> happening now as we were just talking about it's freezing cold around most of the bay area right now. with some temperatures dropping into the 30s and even the 20s. ktvu tara moriarty is live in walnut creek with more on the freeze warning. how cold is it there? >> 29 degrees. and you can really feel it. it's cold. it was 30 degrees when we first arrived but it's dropped a degree here on the bank sign here. is a freeze warning is in effect for your north bay valleys and mountains until 9:00 this morning. and a frost advisory in place for bay side cities in santa clara valley. temperatures are frigid in livermore, redwood city, napa. be advised it's a spare the air day. even though it's cold it's illegal to light fire logs or pellets. coming up a little bit later we'll tell you how much it's supposed to get what the temperature will be like a little bit later today. live from walnut creek i'm tara moriarty. >>> time now 5:01. is a fiscal cliff deal is now a done

jackson. ktvu's alex savidge was first on the scene and joins us to tell us when crews expect to have the water shut off. it was supposed to be at 7:00. but that's no longer the case? >> reporter: that's correct. the time frame, obviously being pushed back. it's a very complicated process from what i understand as they are still trying to isolate where the break is on this underground water line and what those workers are doing from the city of hayward's water department, they are checking the valves near this intersection trying to see which one of them will shut off the water. obviously they haven't found it yet. lanes of traffic are closed down. more of them have opened up. so cars are coming through. this is jackson and santa clara streets. as you can see, it's right near the ent transto 880 -- entrance to 880. water is still running down the street. this is what it looked like when this 12-inch line ruptured. firefighters were called in to cut off the flow of water. it wasn't a simple fix. so apparently, the water department had to be called in. a police lieutenant is hoping to o
